What inspires us

Inspiration is all around, beginning in our own families, and our children with their "new eyes" can connect us with important truths when we can take the time to listen.  The world is filled with beauty and pressing needs, for which we can try to help solve problems and generally help each other.  Our passion can change the world, but it's our compassion that makes it worth living here.

Worth checking out:

Dr. Randy Pausch gave a deeply inspiring lecture about reaching for childhood dreams and truly living, even in the face of death.  (Scroll down to the "Last Lecture" section on his web page.)

Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor gave a remarkable speech about her life-changing insights about the two natures within each of us, following her own stroke.

For beauty, visit Maine photographer Fred Field's website, and a beautiful page by photographer Dan Bush that shows the progress of a spectacular double rainbow in Missouri.

For sheer wonder, check out the astronomy picture of the day.

And for issues relating to global climate change, Andrew Revkin's pieces in the New York Times seem to give a balanced, if sobering, view.

As to the written word, we'll be listing some of our favorite books for children and adults, and I hope you'll send an email listing some of yours.

Thought of the moment

In every hope there is

also fear.

And in every fear there is

also hope.
